Workshops and Speakers

How are the Children? can provide formal or informal talks and workshops for adult audiences in Suburban Ramsey County.  All workshops can be customized based on the audience, length of time available, and particular interests of your group.

How are the Children of Suburban Ramsey County doing?

In this talk, we share research on the strengths and needs of Suburban Ramsey County children and young people, based primarily on data from the Minnesota Student Survey.  We explore two common themes—the risks of social isolation and the protection resulting from relationships with caring adults—and share tips on what all adults can do to support and value children and young people in our communities.

Kids Matter

This hands-on workshop uses handouts and small group exercises to engage adults in thinking about the ways they are already supporting kids and how they might be more intentional about getting to know kids and showing them that they matter.  Participants leave with a full toolbox of ideas and suggestions.

Nurturing Your Child’s Talents

This workshop for parents focuses on how to identify and encourage your child’s talents.  Some kids know what they love and want to do from an early age and other kids need more help and encouragement to find and focus on what brings them happiness and joy.  This workshop looks at talents as broadly as making others laugh, singing, sports, writing, poetry, etc.  Parents will leave with an action plan for encouraging and supporting their child’s talents.
